Early Childhood Demonstration Lab School

Broward College initiated its Early Learning Demonstration School in January 2014. Our intention is to provide a high quality, safe, affordable learning environment that ensures a hands-on, developmentally-appropriate curriculum for  children 1 to 5 years of age. A fun filled summer program is held during the summer months for children up to 8 years of age.

The Center is an approved Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) site, as well as participant with Early Learning Coalition of Broward County and the Children’s Services Council.
Our curriculum is the “Creative Curriculum” and is aligned with the standards and expectations of the national Head Start Program and the Broward County Public School system.

The Broward College Early Childhood Demonstration Laboratory School is committed to addressing the emerging individual physical, social, cultural, cognitive, literacy and developmental needs of children in an inclusive and supportive environment guided by dedicated professionals and the aspiring in-service teachers they are training.
Our philosophy is based upon the best, current research concerning children’s learning to include the following beliefs: Each child is unique, with special gifts and talents; the whole child is considered when planning activities.

Each child constructs their own knowledge through hands-on experiences within their environment; Parents are primary educators of their child and an integral part of a successful early education program; Teachers inspire in children, the values, challenges, and experiences for learning through developmentally appropriate guidance and positive interactions.

There is a critical link between a child’s early experiences and later success in life. Children, families and society benefit from high quality early education programs that encourage advancement of intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.
The Lab School provides a high-quality program with educational leaders in the field of early childhood education to ensure curriculum reflects the cognitive, emotional, physical and creative development of the young child.

Our goals to ensure success:
  • Maintaining and increasing the expertise of staff and quality services by providing opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Ensuring that planned learning activities and materials are appropriate to each child’s developmental stage.
  • Delivering Family-Centered programming, ensuring each family’s needs, concerns and cultures are addressed and incorporated into their child’s daily activities.
Children are active participants in their daily learning experiences; learn through teachable moments, and frequent, positive interactions. Inclusive services to children of all abilities are provided so that all children participate, are accepted and development is promoted and enhanced.

The School also serves as a training facility and observational site for Broward College students preparing for careers in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Education, Sign Language, and other related fields.
