Attending in Fall (August 2016)? Renew your FAFSA now! Completing the 2016-2017 FAFSA as soon as possible will give the Financial Aid Office enough time to process you ahead of your Fall term due date for payment, and you may even receive some additional funding (if eligible). We will start posting 2016-2017 red flags for required documents in the near future, so be sure to check your status on your myBC account by logging in and clicking on ‘Financial Aid’, then ‘Application Status’. Red flags must be cleared before aid can be awarded. Click on the 'Document Details' button for information on how to resolve each red flag.
Attending in Summer (May 2016)? If you have already completed your FAFSA and have been awarded for Fall and Spring, and have attended less than 12 or more credits for Fall and/or Spring, you may have aid available to you for Summer. (This is generally true in the case of the Federal Pell Grant. If you are loan eligible only and attended both Fall and Spring at least half-time you may have already received your maximum loan amount for the academic year.) See a financial aid advisor to determine your eligibility, or log in to your MyBC Financial Aid account and go to your 'Awards' page to confirm.
Haven't applied yet?
Complete your FAFSA now! The deadline to apply for Summer is June 30, 2016. Even if you are eligible and attending we will not be able to offer you aid unless you get your FAFSA in prior to the deadline date. Completing the 2015-2016 FAFSA as soon as possible will give the Financial Aid Office enough time to process you ahead of your Summer term due date for payment. Once you have completed your FAFSA you will want to review your Student Aid Reports (SAR) for comments (on the FAFSA site), then check your MyBC Financial Aid account (on
www.broward.edu) to confirm whether or not those comments have generated any red flags; these red flags represent required documents and/or FAFSA corrections which must be made.
You can check for red flags on MyBC by logging in and clicking on ‘Financial Aid’, then ‘Application Status’. You can review all the necessary steps to apply for financial aid here
If one of your red flags is in regards to submitting 2014 tax return transcripts, please be advised that at this time the IRS is not offering an on-demand PDF version that you can print directly from their web site. Instead, you will have to wait for the transcript to be mailed to you; therefore you should return to your FAFSA and utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or
request a copy of your transcripts
as soon as possible.
