Cutting-Edge Instruction for Graphic Artists

Technology has drastically changed the creative process. Graphic designers today must know how to create captivating images, logos and visual layouts for a broad range of mediums, from print to television to mobile apps.

With a focus on new and emerging technology, BC’s two-year Graphic Design Technology program will prepare you for successful entry into the rapidly changing, highly competitive computer graphics design industry. Our program will give you a professional edge in such key areas as:
  • Using computer software to efficiently design new images or modify existing ones
  • Solving real-world advertising problems and carrying projects from concept to completion
  • Employing the full range of print, web and electronic media to create art that meets client needs
  • Analyzing client needs, conducting research and developing concepts for production within a budget
In two years, you will be ready to get a job after having real-world training in practical technique. We are always current with the latest trends in design. In fact, we were the first institution to have classes in photography, web design, and now, iPad interactive design.

Is This Program Right for Me?

Creativity and artistic ability are the foundation of a good designer. More important is the interest in solving problems using design communication because the tools and even the media (the web and iPad design) are dramatically changing. Learning and adapting to change is critical.

In addition to a high school diploma or GED, all students must fulfill the general education requirements for admission to the program. Any experience with computers and design applications is a plus.

Keeping current with software changes, looking at good design with a critical eye, and becoming a lifelong learner are the keys to success in this program. If this sounds like you, submit your application today.

Accreditation

Broward College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) to award associate’s degrees in Graphic Design.

The Graphic Design program is affiliated with the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).

Faculty

All full-time and adjunct professors possess master's degrees and are veterans of design, photography and advertising careers. Program Manager and Professor Rick McCawley holds an MA in photography form Barry University and is completing an MFA at FAU.

As the president of his own graphic design consulting firm for 15 years, he trained Fortune 500 companies in design and pre-press. In addition, he was the chief technical officer for Graphline, a global distributor of design and pre-press equipment. Before coming to run the program at Broward College 10 years ago, Professor McCawley helped set up the design programs at the International Fine Arts College and Barry University. He is also the author of seven books on design and photography.

Another full time faculty member will join the team in fall 2012.
