Staff Credential One way to be eligible for the Staff Credential, requires
having (1) a 2-year, a 4-year, or an advanced college degree in a field other than early childhood education, elementary education, or consumer science, (2) completion of 480 hours of experience working with children birth through eight years of age in the last five years, and (3) completion of six-credit hours ( 2 courses) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. These courses are offered every term: EEC1200 and CHD1320*.Director Credential To be eligible for the Director Credential, you
must have (1) an active Staff Credential, (2) completed the Introduction to Childcare Training (40 hours), and (3)
completed the Overview of Child Care Management course. Students may take CHD2800* to meet the requirement for the Overview of Child Care Management course. This course is offered every term. Staff Credential and Director Credential RenewalFor information on Staff Credential Renewal, please visit the Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Child Care Staff Credential Verification Application, Section 5 for details on renewal process. Students may take any Early Childhood course to renew the Staff Credential Renewal. The Director Credential may be renewed by completing one of the following courses: CHD1320, CHD1331, CHD1334, and CHD1338*.Introduction to Childcare Training (40 Hour Training)The 40 Hour Training is the entry level credential that is required by most licensed centers. Courses are available through the Broward College Continuing Education Department. You may also visit the Florida State Department of Children and Families website.
*These courses can be applied towards the Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education for students interested in obtaining a degree.
