The critical nature of accounting leads to careers in a wide variety of organizations, from government and health care to human resources and marketing. With an A.S. or certificate in Accounting Technology, you'll be prepared for full-charge or support positions related to accounting where you will compile, record, interpret and communicate financial information. 
Broward College offers an AS degree and three certificates in accounting at one of the lowest tuition rates in the state. Whether you want to learn how to prepare accounting books and records or wish to pursue a managerial role in an accounting or finance department, our industry-leading program is your first step towards that goal. One of the first things you will notice about the Accounting program is its flexibility. Whether you choose to enroll full time or part time, we strive to make our classes accessible for all. That includes offering a fully online option for the Accounting A.S. degree and the Accounting Applications Certificate. Day, evening and weekend classes are available to accommodate your lifestyle and preferences. 
 
The course offerings we have developed will:

State-of-the-art software, computer labs and learning resources round out the program so you receive the technical training and application necessary to compete once you graduate. Our instruction integrates the basic foundations of accounting with the latest industry developments, making ours a cutting-edge program that stays on top of industry trends. 
Career Path
Accountants are needed in every industry and sector. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the large size of this occupation ensures plentiful job openings for bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks. The changing economy will result in more financial transactions and other activities that require these types of workers. The job outlook for graduates is expected to increase by 14 percent nationwide. In Broward County, the average entry level salary is close to $12 an hour, with the average salary being just over $16 an hour. Salaries vary depending on the job title. 
 
 
Graduates of Broward College’s Accounting Technology programs are finding a variety of career opportunities. Some of the positions our graduates have found include:

Accreditation
Broward College’s Accounting Technology programs are regionally accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) and are designed to prepare you for immediate employment after graduation.
Faculty
The Accounting faculty are highly knowledgeable instructors who are active within the industry. Their knowledge and industry contacts ensure that your training is focused on real-world applications. Our faculty develops course work that is up to date and based on current trends. Many of our professors graduated from Florida schools such as Florida Atlantic University, Florida A&M, Florida International University, Florida State University, Nova Southeastern University, University of Florida, and Broward College. The majority of our accounting professors are Certified Public Accountants.
Courses
The Accounting A.S. consists of 60 credits, which takes two years, or 24 months to complete. The courses in the Accounting Certificates are built into the A.S. degree, so you graduate with all three certificates and a degree.  If you simply wish to enroll in a certificate program, you can complete the 12 credit certificate in one semester or complete all three in as little as three semesters.
